FIFA World Cup 2022 SEN vs NED: Netherlands rescue late 2-0 win against Senegal

Match 2 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 saw the Netherlands get a 2-0 victory against Group A opponents Senegal courtesy of 2 late goals by the Dutch side at the Al Thumama Stadium in Qatar on Monday.

Coming into the tournament without their star forward and skipper Sadio Mane, who was ruled out for the tournament due to injury, Senegal were expected to have a defensive mindset.

However, the African side looked positive with an attacking approach and were equally good in the defense which was led by their captain Koulibaly.

The Netherlands didn't look sharp and failed to test goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in the goal throughout the game with 0 shots on target till the 80-minute mark.

But as they, you only need one chance to win the game of football. That was eventually the case, as the 84th minute of the match saw striker Cody Gakpo break the deadlock and put the Oranje ahead.

The team then went on to double their lead in the dying moments of the game as the rebound from Depay's shot fell right into the feet of Davy Klaassen who slotted the ball in the net sealing 3-points for the Netherlands in their opening match.

Senegal will be disappointed after getting nothing from the game but its the Dutch side that go home with the win after playing their first World Cup game in 8 years.
