Women's Asia Cup: Jemimah Rodrigues shines as India beat Sri Lanka in tournament opener

The Indian women's cricket team beat Sri Lanka by 41 runs in their Women's Asia Cup opener, with Jemimah Rodrigues playing a scintillating knock in Sylhet.

Jemimah's 76 off 53 and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur's 33 helped India post an above-par total even after both openers perished cheaply. Jemimah's aggression mixed withHarmanpreet's cautious approach saw the duo put together a 92-run stand for the 3rd wicket.

Sri Lanka, however, did manage to pull things back, restricting India to 150 from their 20 overs.

Harshitha Madavi started well for the Islanders but losing skipper Chamari Athapaththu for just 5 was a big hiccup for them, one they couldn't really recover from. Batter one after the other kept committing harakiri as they were bowled out for 109 in the 19th over.

The Women in Blue will take on the Malaysians in their next Asia Cup encounter on October 3.
