'We are going to go for it': James Anderson on chasing record target to win 2nd Test | IND vs ENG

Though India remain favourite to win the 2nd Test, England has its eyes set to chase down the record total in Vizag on Monday.

After Day 3, James Anderson said, "The chat last night from the coach was if they get 600, we're going to go for it. So, you know, it just makes it very clear to everyone that we're going to try and do it tomorrow."

"I know there's 180 overs left in the game, but we'll try and do it in 60 or 70. That's just the nature of the way that we play. And we saw that tonight with Rehan (Ahmed) going out there and playing his shots in the last over. He wasn't going to block it out. He just wanted to get out there and chase those runs down, even tonight."

"So I think it's yeah, we've set our stall out and tomorrow will be no different. We'll play the exact same way that we have been doing the last two years. And whether we win or lose, then, you know, it's not irrelevant, obviously, because we’re an extremely competitive group. We want to win every game that we play. We want to play in a certain way. And I think we'll be doing that tomorrow.”

Gill's 104 helped India set England a record 399-run target and they made it to 67-1 at stumps, requiring another 332.

The tourists lost Ben Duckett (28) along the way, but Zak Crawley remains on 29 not out and even night hawk Rehan Ahmed (9*) played some shots before the close.

The challenge remains a steep one for Ben Stokes’ side - to say the least - but they overturned a 190-run first innings deficit to win the opening Test in Hyderabad and chased down 378 against India at Edgbaston 18 months ago.
