In anticipation of the crucial fourth Test against India, Ben Stokes has shed light on the tactical adjustments within the England squad, notably the inclusion of Ollie Robinson. This decision, according to Stokes, enhances the team's versatility on the Ranchi pitch. "Bringing Robbo (Robinson) in gives us good options, especially looking at this wicket," Stokes remarked during a pre-match press conference, emphasizing the balance between spin assistance and the advantage Robinson's seam bowling could bring due to his height and precision.

The choice to bring in Robinson, who last appeared in the Ashes series, was made at the cost of replacing Mark Wood and leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed with Shoaib Bashir. This move underscores the emphasis on maintaining peak performance levels, particularly in fast bowling, a domain where Wood has excelled. "His number one skill is how fast he bowls and the effort he put in last week was monumental," Stokes praised, highlighting the strategic considerations behind the squad selection.

Stokes also delved into the pitch conditions in Ranchi, suggesting a mixed bag of opportunities for spinners and seamers alike. The inclusion of Bashir, known for his high release and the resultant bounce, is seen as a tactical move to exploit these conditions. Despite the speculative nature of pitch analysis, Stokes cautioned against over-relying on preconceived notions, advocating for adaptability based on actual play conditions.

The discussion also turned towards veteran pacer James Anderson, whose proximity to the landmark of 700 wickets was acknowledged by Stokes. Praising Anderson's enduring skill and adaptability, Stokes highlighted the inspirational figure Anderson presents to younger fast bowlers, notwithstanding the focus on the series' current standing over personal milestones.

As for Stokes's own role with the ball, speculation has been rife following his bowling practice at the nets. Despite this, Stokes remained non-committal about his bowling contributions for the upcoming test, underscoring the team's preparedness to adapt to the Ranchi pitch's demands, which may favor spin but does not discount the value of having two pacers.
