Temba Bavuma's participation in Centurion Test uncertain due to hamstring injury | SA vs IND, 1st Test

Temba Bavuma, the captain of the South African cricket team, faced a significant setback during the ongoing first Test against India, as he suffered a left hamstring strain, putting his continued participation in the match in doubt. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Bavuma had to leave the field during the 20th over, following an effort to chase down a drive from Virat Kohli, bowled by Marco Jansen.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) provided an update on his condition, stating, "Scans have revealed a left hamstring strain. He (Bavuma) will undergo daily medical evaluations to determine his participation in the match." This development raises concerns about Bavuma's ability to continue playing in the current Test.

The incident saw Bavuma struggling in the middle of his pursuit in the extra cover region, after which he was compelled to walk off the field, assisted by the South African team's physiotherapist.

In Bavuma's absence, Dean Elgar, who announced his retirement from the series post its conclusion, temporarily took over the captaincy duties. Meanwhile, Wiaan Mulder was called upon to replace Bavuma on the field.
