Sanju Samson ends long wait, slams maiden international hundred in 3rd ODI | India vs South Africa

The wait is over for Sanju Samson and his legion of fans, as the Indian cricketer has finally seized his moment, achieving his maiden international century in the crucial third ODI against South Africa on Thursday. His celebration, flaunting his biceps, was a testament to his strength and ability to excel on the grandest stages of cricket.

Samson, whose inclusion in the team has often been a topic of debate, reached his century off 110 deliveries. At the age of 29, the cricketer from Kerala has finally etched a significant achievement in his international career.

In a series-defining match in Paarl, Samson stepped up precisely when India needed him to. Entrusted with the No. 3 batting spot, he embraced this new role admirably, mirroring the poise and precision often associated with Virat Kohli, who usually occupies this position.

Facing the South African team, Samson's batting brilliance became evident, particularly when India were progressing at a moderate pace during the middle overs. His dynamic partnership with Tilak Varma was a game-changer. The effective left-right pairing not only steadied the innings after a precarious position of 101/3 but also powered a 116-run stand, laying a solid foundation for a strong finish.

Before this remarkable century, Samson had scored three half-centuries in 15 matches for India. This overseas ton against a formidable South African side marks a significant breakthrough. Overlooked for the ODI World Cup earlier in the year, Samson has vindicated the selectors' decision to include him in the tour, especially given the absence of several key players.

Although Samson is not currently in the mix for India's T20 World Cup plans, this century in the ODI format will undoubtedly give the selectors something to consider. With the IPL season ahead, an impressive performance could very well catapult him into contention for the World Cup squad.
