Mithali Raj announces retirement from international cricket

Mithali Raj's retirement announcement marks the end of a 23-year-long glittering international career

India women's cricket icon Mithali Raj announced her retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday.

Mithali broke the news through a statement on Twitter.

In her statement, the 39-year-old cricketer wrote that each and every event taught her something unique and the last 23 years have been the most fulfilling and enjoyable years of her life.

She retired from T20Is back in September 2019 but continued to play ODIs and Tests. She led India at the 2022 ODI World Cup in New Zealand earlier this year, where the Women in Blue failed to reach the knockouts.

Mithali represented India in 12 Tests, 232 ODIs, and 89 T20Is during her Sachin-esque career.

Mithali, the highest run-getter in women's international cricket with 10000-plus runs, is the only female player to cross the 7000-run mark in ODIs. She scored 7,805 runs at an average of 58, including 7 centuries.
