Lasith Malinga appointed Mumbai Indians' new bowling coach ahead of IPL 2024

Mumbai Indians have announced that Lasith Malinga is returning to the franchise as the bowling coach ahead of IPL 2024.

Malinga will join head coach Mark Boucher and batting coach Kieron Pollard as part of the support staff for the 5-time champions. Only days ago, the franchise had announced they had parted ways with previous fast bowling coach Shane Bond.

The Sri Lankan legend, who served as the bowling coach for the Rajasthan Royals since the 2022 season, spent close to 13 years with the Mumbai Indians since the inaugural IPL season in 2008. In 122 matches, he took 170 wickets and was the highest wicket-taker of the competition for a long time.

Malinga won 6 trophies as a Mumbai Indians player, 4 IPL and 2 CLT20 titles. He also served as the bowling coach of the MI New York franchise in the inaugural season earlier this year.
