'I was surprised': Sourav Ganguly on Virat Kohli's decision to give up T20 captaincy

Expressing his surprise at Virat Kohli's decision of quitting the captaincy, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly clarified that it was his own decision and there was no pressure from the Indian cricket board.

Before the World Cup started, the Indian skipper had announced that after the ongoing World T20 he would step down from his post and will only be available as a player for T20s.

Speaking to Aaj Tak, Ganguly said that he was surprised at Kohli's decision but being a player himself he realises the pressure on Kohli due to the hectic schedule of the Indian team.

'It was a decision he took after the England series, and it's his decision. Neither did we speak to him, nor did we put any pressure', the former skipper said.

Explaining Kohli's decision further, Ganguly who has led India for 5 years, called captaincy a tough job and added that there is a lot of fame and respect but internally the players have a mental and physical burn-out while leading the team.
