Gautam Gambhir leaves LSG, appointed KKR mentor ahead of IPL 2024

Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir is set to rejoin the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as the mentor for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. This marks Gambhir's return to KKR after a successful two-year stint as the mentor for the Lucknow Super Giants.

Gambhir's association with KKR from 2011 to 2017 is etched in the franchise's history, characterized by two IPL titles, five playoff qualifications, and a memorable journey to the finals of the Champions League T20 in 2014. The veteran cricketer will collaborate with KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit, aiming to contribute to the team's success in the upcoming season.

Expressing his sentiments about returning to KKR, Gambhir stated in a released franchise statement, "I am not an emotional person and not many things move me. But this is different. This is back to where it all started. Today, there is a lump in my throat and fire in my heart as I think about slipping into that purple and gold jersey once again. I am not only coming back to KKR but I am coming back to the city of joy. I am back. I am hungry. I am number 23. Ami KKR."
