Former Pakistani umpire Asad Rauf dies aged 66

Former ICC elite panel umpire Asad Rauf died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Lahore. Rauf was 66 years old.

According to Pakistani media reports, the former umpire died due to a heart attack soon after returning from his shop on Wednesday night.

A few months back, Rauf was interviewed by a Pakistani news channel in his second-hand apparel shop and then he said that because he has umpired in so many games in the past, there is nothing left for him to see.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja sent his condolences to his family through social media and wrote on Twitter that Rauf was not only a good umpire but also had a good sense of humour.

Rauf made his first appearance as an umpire in international cricket in 2000. He was elevated to ICC elite panel in April 2006.

He officiated in 49 Tests, 139 ODIs and 28 T20Is.

But his career came to an abrupt end in 2013 when he was named as one of the accused by the Mumbai Police in the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
