Champions Trophy 2025: PCB denies relocation rumors

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that the ICC Champions Trophy might be relocated from Pakistan.

These rumors arose due to concerns about delayed construction at three key stadiums set to host the tournament, which begins on February 19.

The designated venues for the competition in Pakistan include Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and Karachi's National Bank Stadium. Meanwhile, the Indian team will play all of its matches in Dubai.

An informed source within the PCB highlighted that the presence of a substantial delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) — comprising officials from broadcast, hospitality, and event operations sectors — underscores that preparations for the event are proceeding on track in Pakistan.

"The PCB has invested almost PKR 12 billion to enhance our stadiums, ensuring they meet the standards for a prestigious event like the Champions Trophy, which was rightfully awarded to us," stated the source.

Furthermore, the source clarified that previous declarations regarding the progress of the stadium renovations were issued in response to speculative media reports suggesting the tournament might be shifted due to unfinished venue work.

"We issued the statement because our media started circulating speculative news without verifying the facts. This could have led to chaos and confusion among the PCB, ICC, government, commercial partners, and fans, potentially impacting ticket sales and the event's marketing," the source explained.

Adding to the context, the official recounted an incident involving a local reporter who, without authorization, recorded the ongoing construction at Karachi's National Stadium, portraying an unduly negative image.

"The PCB, along with the relevant officials, is closely supervising the stadiums’ progress, ensuring they will be ready to host the Champions Trophy matches on schedule," the official assured.
