Boult shock for New Zealand as pacer opts out of central contract

Kiwi pacer Trent Boult has decided to step back from international cricket, opting out of his central contact with New Zealand Cricket.

The World’s No. 1 ODI bowler made the decision in order to spend more time with family and make himself available for domestic competitions around the globe.

New Zealand Cricket has accepted Boult's decision but said that the move will reduce his chances of representing the country on the international stage with the board giving preference to contracted players.

However, New Zealand Cricket chief executive David White also added that the left-arm pacer will be eligible for selection if and when available.

Boult said he understood the move would diminish his chances of playing for New Zealand but he was willing to take the risk.

The 33-year-old Boult has represented Black Caps in 78 Tests, 93 ODIs and 44 T20Is, picking up a total of 548 wickets.
