Supreme Court grants Ranveer Allahbadia interim protection from arrest, criticizes his remarks

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to influencer Ranveer Allahbadia in multiple FIRs related to his alleged objectionable remarks on a YouTube show.

However, the court strongly criticized his comments, stating, "There is something dirty in his mind which has been vomited on the YouTube show."

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh directed that no further FIRs be registered against him for his remarks on India’s Got Latent and restrained him and his associates from airing further episodes until further notice.

Senior advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, argued that the influencer faced death threats and sought protection from coercive action.

The court agreed and instructed Allahbadia to deposit his passport at the Thane police station, prohibiting him from leaving the country without prior approval.

The bench also ordered Allahbadia to cooperate with ongoing investigations in Maharashtra and Assam.

The Maharashtra Police’s cyber cell has summoned him for questioning on February 24, following allegations that he had been unresponsive to investigative agencies.

The Supreme Court, expressing strong disapproval of his remarks, questioned whether popularity gave anyone the right to use offensive language and disregard societal norms.
