The Punjab government is intensifying its crackdown on gangsters, smugglers, and criminals, reaffirming its commitment to restoring law and order in the state.
Addressing a gathering at the passing out parade of 2,490 police recruits, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann emphasized that Punjab has always been known for its saints, martyrs, and legendary figures.
However, past administrations allowed criminal elements to thrive. Now, with a decisive campaign against these anti-social elements, the government aims to eliminate them entirely.
Mann highlighted that Punjab is at a crucial point in its battle against drug abuse. The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy, working to dismantle the drug supply chain, imprison traffickers, and seize illegal properties. He expressed confidence that the newly inducted police personnel would play a vital role in this fight, ensuring a drug-free Punjab.
Recognizing Punjab’s strategic position as a border state, Mann stressed the need for an advanced and modernized police force to counter threats from external forces. He noted that the police force must evolve with new scientific and technological advancements to address emerging challenges.
Punjab Police has a rich history of protecting the state, and he expressed hope that the new officers would continue that legacy with professionalism and dedication.
Congratulating the recruits, Mann urged them to serve with dedication, emphasizing their duty to safeguard public welfare and justice. He called upon them to take an active role in eradicating drug-related crimes, as Punjab Police has always been at the forefront of combating drug trafficking.
Mann warned against divisive forces attempting to disrupt communal harmony in Punjab, asserting that such efforts would fail. He emphasized that Punjab’s social fabric is deeply rooted in unity, and no attempt to sow discord would succeed.
Since 2022, more than 10,000 youth have been inducted into Punjab Police, with an additional 10,000 recruitments planned soon. The government is committed to modernizing the police force with scientific advancements to enhance its effectiveness against crime.
Highlighting a pioneering initiative, Mann spoke about the Sadak Surakhya Force, a first-of-its-kind road safety force in India.
Launched in February last year, the force, consisting of 1,597 trained personnel and equipped with 144 advanced vehicles, has contributed to a 48.10% reduction in road accident fatalities.
Covering 4,200 km of highways, this unit ensures road safety and prevents traffic violations. The initiative has even received praise from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Parliament.
Mann also took pride in the Jahan Khela training campus, which spans 155 acres and is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Recognized for its excellence, the facility attracts police forces from other states for training programs.
Given the evolving nature of crime, Punjab Police is continuously being updated with specialized training modules.
Encouraging the newly inducted personnel, Mann stated that they are now part of the government and must serve with a sense of duty. He urged them to use their authority to support the underprivileged and ensure justice for all sections of society.
