MP CM Mohan Yadav credits PM Modi for return of Piprahwa relics, calls it a moment of pride

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating the return of the sacred Piprahwa relics associated with Lord Buddha, calling it a “moment of immense pride for every Indian.”

He said the initiative reflects the Centre's unwavering commitment to cultural preservation under the Prime Minister’s vision of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi” (Development and Heritage).

Dr. Yadav expressed deep appreciation for the Prime Minister’s efforts in bringing the revered relics back to India after 127 years. “Prime Minister Shri Modi deserves heartfelt appreciation for his initiative to bring back the sacred Piprahwa relics associated with Lord Buddha to India after a long span of 127 years,” the Chief Minister said.

Highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s historical connection with Buddhism, Dr. Yadav noted that the state has long been a witness to Buddhism’s architectural, educational, and spiritual legacy. “The land of Madhya Pradesh has been a witness to the unique architectural, educational and spiritual traditions of Buddhism,” he said.

He added that the return of the relics from Piprahwa in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district—believed to be where Lord Buddha spent the first 29 years of his life—symbolizes the government’s commitment to safeguarding India’s rich civilizational heritage. Piprahwa is an archaeological site of significance, home to an ancient stupa and numerous monastic ruins.
