Monsoon Havoc: Kerala Faces Massive Damage to Power Infrastructure

Thiruvananthapuram, June 2 (PTI) Heavy monsoon rains accompanied by strong winds wreaked havoc in Kerala last week, significantly damaging the state’s power infrastructure. Officials reported on Monday.

According to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), a total of 3,153 high-tension poles and 23,339 low-tension poles were damaged. The destruction extended to 2,826 high-tension lines and 61,637 low-tension lines.

This extensive damage resulted in power outages affecting over 81.99 lakh consumers. However, electricity has already been restored for more than 76.35 lakh people, as per KSEB's update.

The power distribution sector has suffered an estimated loss of around Rs 164.46 crore due to these adverse weather conditions. The heavy rainfall and ensuing floods, which began late last week, have forced numerous residents to evacuate their homes, causing significant disruptions in several districts.
