FIR registered against MP minister Vijay Shah for controversial remarks against Col Sofiya Qureshi

An FIR has been lodged against Madhya Pradesh minister Vijay Shah in Indore following orders from the state High Court.

The case centers on objectionable comments reportedly made by Shah about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on X that action against Tribal Welfare Minister Shah was directed by the High Court.

In response, Shah has issued an apology, expressing regret for his remarks and reaffirming his respect for Colonel Qureshi, whom he called "sister Sofia" and praised for her dedication to national service.

Following the High Court’s directive, the call for Shah’s immediate removal from office has grown stronger.

A video shared on social media features Shah expressing deep regret for offending various communities with his statement, and he describes Colonel Qureshi as "the sister of the country."

The FIR was filed at Manpur police station, per orders from the High Court. Superintendent of Police (Rural), Hitika Vasal, confirmed the registration.

The charges include sections related to acts endangering sovereignty, unity, and public harmony.

The controversy follows a public event in Indore where Shah made his remarks without explicitly naming Colonel Qureshi. Colonel Qureshi, along with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, has been involved in briefing the press on 'Operation Sindoor', a mission by the Indian Armed Forces.

Amid the uproar, Shah stated his willingness to apologize multiple times, emphasizing his respect for Colonel Qureshi, comparing it to the regard he holds for his own sister.
