A 3-centimetre bullet lodged in a Yemen man's head for nearly 18 years was removed last week. The surgery to remove the bullet took place at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

The 29-year-old man was left deaf because of the incident. Moreover, his left temporal bone was also severely damaged by the bullet, which resulted in ongoing headaches and ear discharges.

The man said that this accident took place when he was just 10 years old. At that time, he was on his way home from the store and he became entangled in fighting between two opposing factions.

The man said that he got severely injured and started bleeding profusely. He rushed to the hospital wherein his wound was cleaned up but the bullet wasn't removed.

The man got to know about Bengaluru's Aster Hospital through some friends and went to that place with great hope. Dr Rohit Udaya Prasad, lead consultant, ENT and cochlear implant surgery recalled the survey and said, "The bullet was lodged inside his ear, deep inside the temporal bone in the left side and very close to the vital vascular structures, which made surgery challenging. Because of the proximity of the surgical site to the vital vascular structures, the patient was at risk of major bleeding when the bullet was removed"

After the surgery was successful, the man flew back to Yemen. He is currently pursuing his degree in French and English.
