‘The Umbrella Academy’: Netflix sets August release for the final season of superhero TV series

Netflix has announced that the fourth and final season of its superhero television series ‘The Umbrella Academy’ is set to be released on August 8, 2024. All six episodes will premiere simultaneously on the streaming platform.

During Netflix's Geek Week event last autumn, the ‘Umbrella Academy’ cast hinted the last season would be a ‘sexy, wacky’ send-off. While prior seasons had 10 episodes each, this finale comprises only six.

In Season 4 of the series, notable newcomers to the cast include Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross.

Real-life couple Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally join as Doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau, while David Cross portrays the timid businessman Sy Grossman in the sci-fi series' last season.

Returning cast members include Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore.

Showing his excitement, the creator of ‘Umbrella Academy’, Steve Blackman, revealed to an entertainment portal, ‘I'm so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreaves siblings' journey we began five years ago. But before we get to that conclusion, we've got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes.’

Blackman hinted at potential cameos, and The Sparrow Academy cast members may also make appearances in the superhero world's finale.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ last aired new episodes with Season 3 premiering on Netflix in June 2022. Originating in 2019, the show swiftly followed up with a second season in 2020. It's adapted from the graphic novels by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. Steve Blackman leads as developer, executive producer, and showrunner, with Jesse McKeown, Mike Richardson, Keith Goldberg, Scott Stuber, and Beau Bauman also serving as executive producers. Way and Bá act as co-executive producers. The series is a Netflix production by UCP.
