Where is Sironah?, ask fans as 'Aranyak' tops Netflix charts in India for top TV show

Raveena Tandon-starrer 'Aranyak' has all the elements of classic whodunnit, from a mythical creature to the murder case in the mountains. The show is now at the top of Netflix's chart of most watched shows in India.

Directed by Vinay Waikul, the show weaves the absurd with the familiar. Set in a sleepy hill town called ‘Sironah,’ the show unfolds a labyrinthine of lies and deceits that led to the rape and murder of a young girl.

Fans are curious to know if Sironah actually exists. The series has been shot extensively in picturesque locations of Himachal Pradesh, say makers, as myth, murder and mystery unfolds. Hilly and seemingly idyllic town of Sironah, where the series is set, is also fictional. Sironah is modeled after numerous towns in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains, which are deeply connected to the myths, legends, and folklore of the region.

'Aranyak' follows Kasturi Dogra, a gritty pahadi cop who decides to take time off from her work, to spend time with her family. But she reconsiders her decision when a teenage foreign tourist disappears in her town.

While fans are drawing comparisons to many real cases, the makers of 'Aranyak' have clarified that the show is not based on a true story. The emotionally powered screenplay centres around a fictional murder case. Makers say, any comparisons with true crime shows are unnecessary.

We won't give any spoilers if you haven't watched it yet, but all we can say is that its a perfect recipe for a binge watch fest. 'Aranyak' is now streaming on Netflix.
