Mani Ratnam’s 'Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1' starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to release in theatres on Sep 30

Finally, the wait is over and here are the first look posters for Mani Ratnam's period drama 'Ponniyin Selvan', which were unveiled by the makers.

The film is being hailed as one of Mani Ratnam's most ambitious projects. Set in the 10th century, part 1 of 'Ponniyin Selvan' will hit the big screens on September 30. The film’s first look posters feature Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandini, Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vandhiyathevan and Trisha as Kundavai.

Based on Kalki Krishnamoorthy's Tamil novel by the same name, the film’s story has been set in the 10th century. The film narrates the story of Arulmozhi Varman and the Chola dynasty. Amidst the political and military turmoil, 'Ponniyin Selvan' will show the rise of Chola dynasty in becoming the most powerful empire in the continent.

The screenplay for 'Ponniyin Selvan' has been written by Mani Ratnam, Elango Kumaravel, and B Jeyamohan and the soundtrack has been composed by AR Rahman. This period drama has been jointly bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.

Mani Ratnam’s last directorial was the 2018 film ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’. After that, he created the Netflix anthology ‘Navarasa’ with Jayendra Panchapakesan in the year 2021.
