‘RRR’s ‘Naatu Naatu’ wins Oscar: MM Keeravani’s speech, Ram Charan-Jr NTR’s emotional moment goes viral

SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ scripted history as it won the Best Original Song award at the 95th Academy Awards. Music composer MM Keeravaani and lyricist Chandrabose took to the stage after the film was announced as the winner by presenters Janelle Monae and Kate Hudson. During his speech, Keeravani mentioned that he grew up listening to ‘The Carpenters’ and broke into a version of ‘Top of the World’ in which he paid tribute to the director and India. ‘There was only one wish on my mind, so was Rajamouli’s and my family’s, RRR has to win, pride of every Indian and must put me on top of the world,’ he sang as the crowd cheered for him.

Deepika Padukone, who introduced a live performance of ‘Naatu Naatu’ earlier in the evening, and fellow Best Original Song nominee Lady Gaga, who also performed live during the Oscars, looked on gleefully as Keeravani sang.

Ram Charan’s wife Upasana Kamineni also shared a video that showed the lead stars of the film hugging each other when the win was announced. Director SS Rajamouli almost jumped from his seat in excitement and then hugged his wife, Rama.

It was a big night for India at the Oscars. Besides ‘RRR’, ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short. Shaunak Sen’s ‘All that Breathes’ was also nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category, but it lost out to ‘Navalny’.
