Film City to Rise in Igatpuri with Mumbai Model

Mumbai, Oct 6 (PTI): In a significant development for Maharashtra's entertainment sector, the state government has given the green light to a new film city in Igatpuri, Nashik district.

This new venture will take inspiration from the Dadasaheb Phalke Chittranagri in Mumbai's Goregaon, a well-established hub for film and television production.

The decision was reached in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, with notable participants including Chhagan Bhujbal and Ashish Shelar.

Pawar stated that the revenue department must transfer designated land in Igatpuri to the cultural affairs department for this proposed entertainment hub.

Chhagan Bhujbal emphasized the natural beauty and accessibility of the Igatpuri site, accessible via the Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Highway.

"A grand film city will soon emerge here, modeled on the Goregaon Film City," Bhujbal remarked enthusiastically.

Originally outlined in the Nashik Division Development Programme 2009, the project received a former investment of Rs 10 crore.

A comprehensive survey of 54.58 hectares in Mundegaon village was conducted, with relevant proposals sent to the Maharashtra administration.

Feasibility assessments by the Dadasaheb Phalke Film City Corporation and Mitcon have already been undertaken, with KPMG onboard as consultants to deliver a financial viability study by November.

Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar underscored departmental backing for this initiative, appointing a project management consultant to advance the project.

In addition to enhancing the film city, Nashik Divisional Commissioner Dr. Praveen Gedam proposed an amusement park to boost visitor engagement.
