'Oppenheimer's US red carpet premiere cancelled in support of ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Universal Pictures has come out in support of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and canceled the upcoming US premiere of 'Oppenheimer', but the film will be screened to celebrate the crew and craftspeople who contributed to making this landmark movie.

On July 13, SAG-AFTRA called for a strike and voted to join screenwriters in the first joint strike after failing to reach any possible solution for a new contract with the studios and OTT services.

As per prominent sources of Variety, authorities from Universal Pictures in a statement said, ‘In support of the ongoing SAG strike, the filmmakers of Oppenheimer will not be proceeding with the NY premiere as originally planned and will instead screen the movie to celebrate the crew and craftspeople who contributed to making this landmark film.’

The premiere of Oppenheimer is scheduled to take place in New York City on July 17 at 7 pm ET (4.30 am IST).

The statement came after the 'Oppenheimer' cast left the film’s UK premiere on July 13 in support of the strike.

'Oppenheimer' cast members Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon and Emily Blunt walked the UK red carpet but did not attend the screening of the film.

Later, filmmaker Christopher Nolan mentioned that the actors left the premiere to give clear signs of the strike.

‘Oppenheimer’ will release theatrically on July 21, 2023.
