Nicki Minaj courts controversy again; 'super fan' sues rapper for calling him 'mentally ill'

Best-selling music icon Nicki Minaj is once again embroiled in controversy, this time facing accusations of bullying and defamation from a devoted super fan. According to reports, Tameer Peak has filed a $5 million lawsuit against the rapper for calling him a 'stalker', and causing him emotional distress and financial loss.

In his complaint. Peak has alleged Minaj invited him to her hotel only to mock him on Instagram LIVE. It's not the first time Minaj has landed in unexpected trouble. She has been embroiled in feuds with fellow stars like Taylor Swift. She has also faced flak for making anti-Covid vaccine comments and a drug arrest. Take a look at her past controversies:

It was the feud of the season in 2012 when Minaj and music legend Mariah Carey were locked in a battle complete with f-bombs, a reported gun threat as American Idol judges. The chill between the two stars reportedly lasted for years.

Minaj’s rivalry with Cardi B famously escalated into a physical altercation at Harper’s Bazaar's ICONS party in 2018. Reports and videos of the fight went viral, with different accounts of what exactly went down.

Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift had a brief saga on Twitter following the MTV VMA nominations in 2015.

Minaj expressed frustration that her hit ‘Anaconda’ wasn't nominated for Video of the Year, while Swift's ‘Bad Blood’ was, suggesting the VMA nominations favoured videos featuring slim models. This was interpreted as a jab at Swift, who accused Minaj of pitting women against each other.

Minaj has also faced repeated backlash over her husband Kenny Petty’s failure to register as a sex offender. Last year, he was put on house arrest after violating terms of his three-year probation.

Petty, convicted of attempted rape in 1995 and manslaughter in 2002, married Minaj in 2019.
