Lizzo shares ‘I Quit’ message on Instagram amidst online trolling: 'The world doesn't want me in it'

Pop icon Lizzo seemingly announced her departure from the entertainment industry via a heartbreaking note on her Instagram story that ended with, “I QUIT.” Her message, in which the Grammy-winning artist blamed bullying and lies as the driving forces behind her decision, came shortly after her performance at Biden’s re-election fundraiser. After the concerning post, fans have been rallying behind the singer, hitting back at online critics and those who are slamming her.

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” the singer and flautist wrote. “All I want is to make music, make people happy, and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views... being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look,” she continued.

“My character is being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this sh*t.” After her statement, Lizzo wrote, “I QUIT.”

Lizzo faced heavy online bullying for performing at a fundraiser for President Joe Biden on Thursday night. The event, which took place at New York City's City Hall, was also attended by former President Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. Mindy Kaling, Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michelle also performed at the event.

Her previous controversy

Lizzo last year courted controversy over sexual abuse claims. The singer was brutally trolled for her attempt to dismiss a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her by three of her former background dancers, which was denied. Following the controversy, the singer went on a brief hiatus and returned to Instagram with a post explaining that she was taking time to focus on herself.
