Johnny Depp trial: Amber Heard to appear as first defense witness next week

The third week of trial in Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard is over.

Heard is being sued by Depp for $50 million for implying in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed that he abused her. Although she did not name him, he claims that her allegations made it difficult for him to get movie roles.

Starling Jenkins, Depp's security guard, testified in court on Thursday (April 28) about an incident in which faeces was found in the couple's bed. Heard described the incident as a 'practical joke gone wrong,' according to Jenkins.

Terence Dougherty, the American Civil Liberties Union's general counsel and COO, gave additional testimony, describing the group's history with Heard, including donations and the preparation of her op-ed with her lawyers.

Heard is yet to testify and give her side of the story about the relationship and she is anticipated to do so next week. According to reports, Elon Musk, who dated Heard, and actor James Franco, whom Depp suspected Heard was having an affair with, will not testify.

As Depp's defamation trial proceeds, a petition to get Heard removed from 'Aquaman 2' has surpassed two million signatures.
