Johnny Depp takes the court route again; to appeal against Amber Heard's $2M Trial Win

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's highly-publicised defamation trial ended in May in favour of the former. Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Heard was awarded $2 million in favour of a defamation countersuit.

Now, Johnny Depp has appealed against his former wife's solo win, submitting a 44-page appellate brief. According to the court documents published online by Law and Crime network, the 'trial court was confronted with a number of novel and complex legal and factual issues, and although the trial court decided the vast majority of those issues sensibly and correctly, a few rulings were erroneous.'

Depp's notice comes a day after Heard filed an appeal to nullify the verdict ordering her to pay $10 million.

The couple had tied the knot in 2015 and got divorced in 2017. Depp had filed a $50 million defamation case against Amber Heard for her 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she claimed to be the victim of domestic abuse.

One the work front, Depp will next feature in the French movio 'La Favorite'. He will also direct 'Modigliani', a film about Amedeo Modigliani, which he will co-produce alongside Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
