Harvey Weinstein hospitalised with COVID-19 and double pneumonia

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced Hollywood mogul serving a prison sentence for sexual assault, has been hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 and double pneumonia, his representative told The Hollywood Reporter. Weinstein has been moved from New York City's Rikers Island jail to Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

In addition to COVID-19 and double pneumonia, Weinstein is also being treated for diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid in his heart and lungs, according to a statement from Weinstein's publicist, citing Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein's prison consultant.

‘We continue to express our gratitude to the officers, doctors and nurses at DOCS, CHS, and NYC H+H who saw to it that Mr. Weinstein was immediately transferred to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward and will continue working hand in hand with them to ensure Mr. Weinstein receives proper medical treatment,’ his rep added in a statement.

Weinstein has previously been admitted to Bellevue Hospital after being brought to New York City for legal proceedings related to his rape case.

Weinstein, 72, was serving a 23-year prison sentence following his 2020 rape conviction in New York, but it was overturned earlier this year. A tentative new trial date has been set, with jury selection expected to start on November 12.

In the original New York case, Weinstein was found guilty of two charges: criminal sexual assault in the first degree, based on testimony from former Project Runway production assistant Miriam Haley, and rape in the third degree, based on testimony from former aspiring actress Jessica Mann.

Additionally, Weinstein was convicted in 2022 by a Los Angeles jury on three counts of sexual assault involving Jane Doe No. 1, who later identified herself as former Russian model Evgeniya Chernyshova. Weinstein has also filed an appeal against his 16-year prison sentence from that case.
