Glenda Jackson, 2-time Oscar-winning actor and politician, dies at 87; tributes pour in

Glenda Jackson, two time Oscar-winning actor and British lawmaker, has died at 87. Jackson's agent Lionel Larner informed that she died at her London home on June 15 after a brief illness.

The actor had recently completed the shoot for 'The Great Escaper', co-starring Michael Caine.

Celebrities and politicians have paid tribute to the actor.

Carol Vorderman, Countdown and Celebrity Googlebox star, took to Twitter and wrote that watching the Oscar-winning actress Glenda Jackson be her extraordinary self and then to see her turn into a firebrand of politics was deeply impressive for young girls like her.

Jackson's 'The Great Escaper' co-star Caine said it was a privilege to work with her.

Director Oliver Parker and comedian David Baddiel are among others who have condoled her death on social media.

Glenda Jackson was one of the biggest British stars of the 1960s and 70s. She two Academy Awards, for 'Women in Love' and 'A Touch of Class.'

The actor then joined politics. She was elected to Parliament and spent 23 years as a Labour Party lawmaker.

She later returned to acting and had some of her most acclaimed roles, including the title character in Shakespeare's 'King Lear.'
