Disney shares first look image from 'Moana 2', Dwayne Johnson to return for the sequel

Disney has offered a first glimpse into the upcoming animated fantasy feature 'Moana 2'. Along with this, the makers have also confirmed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson's return. In the first-look image, a slightly older version of the Disney character was seen flashing a tricky smile while she rode a raft with an oar in her hand.

The much-loved Disney character Moanna is returning. A first-look image from the upcoming animated fantasy feature was shared by Disney on Wednesday. The new look has now set anticipation soaring for the second installment, which will serve as a follow-up to the original film, 'Moana', which premiered in 2016.

The first still from the upcoming sequel to the animated film was unveiled as part of Disney's 2024 annual shareholders meeting. Earlier, the makers had planned on expanding the franchise as a TV series; however, Disney scrapped the plans and announced a second film instead in February this year.

Dave Derrick Jr. will direct 'Moana 2', while Mark Mancina, Emily Bear, Abigail Barlow, and Opetaia Foa'i will provide the music for the film. Both Cravalho and Johnson would reprise their roles in Moana 2. The movie's premiere is scheduled for November 27. The synopsis of the film read, “Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers.”
