Celine Dion gets emotional, confesses ‘cheating’ fans in unfiltered new documentary ‘I am: Celine Dion’

Pop icon Celine Dion has a confession to make. In her upcoming documentary, the singer has revealed hiding her diagnosis of ‘stiff-person syndrome’ from her fans and pretending to be fine even as the condition held her career hostage. Fans will get a sneak peek into the life of legendary singer and her battle with the neurological condition in the unfiltered documentary.

Celine breaks down

In the no-holds-barred documentary, the legendary singer made confessions and apologised to her fans. “There are moments where I cheated, and I tapped the microphone, like it was the microphone’s fault,” Celine can be heard saying in the documentary that premiered at BAFTA in London.

“I did what my mum said, I didn’t flinch. And there are also moments where we had to stop the show. ‘Quick change (of clothes)’ and I never came back. The lie is too heavy now,” the singer added, revealing that she tried to hide her diagnosis for some time, before making the big revelation. Celine broke down as she confessed how she pretended that ‘nothing was wrong’. The singer addressed her fans and sought their apology. “I’m sorry it has taken me so long to reach out to you,” she said.

The 56-year-old singer received a standing ovation during the premiere of her documentary.

About Celine’s SPS diagnosis

The singer was diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome in 2022. Her condition impacted her ability to perform after which she has been away from public life.

Celine surprised her fans at the Grammy 2024 where she presented the award for ‘album of the year’ to Taylor Swift. The five-time Grammy-winner received a standing ovation as she graced the stage.
