Canadian singer Grimes says anyone can use her voice for AI-generated songs: ‘No legal bindings’

Canadian singer Grimes has welcomed musicians to use her voice using Artificial Intelligence to create new songs. In a note shared on social media, she said that she would split 50% of royalties on any successful AI-generated song that included her voice. Grimes tweeted that it was the ‘same deal as I would with any artist I collab[orate] with. Feel free to use my voice without penalty’. The singer added that she has ‘no label and no legal bindings’.

The pop singer, whose real name is Claire Boucher, referenced news about AI being used to imitate Canadian singers Drake and The Weeknd in her post.

The use of AI in music has become a subject of debate in the industry. Some people have criticised copyright abuses, while others are praising its prowess.

Grimes is a former partner of Tesla chief Elon Musk, with whom she had two children, including one by a surrogate mother.
