‘Black Adam’ banned in China over cast member Pierce Brosnan's Dalai Lama meeting? Here’s what we know

‘Black Adam’, DC’s latest superhero film, has reportedly been banned in China, which is the single-largest overseas market for Hollywood movies. Many fan forums state that the reason for the ban is actor Pierce Brosnan’s past comments on Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama.

It all started on the forums of BoxOfficeTheory.com, where an industry insider by the username Isaac Newton claimed that ‘Black Adam’ will not release in Chinese theaters. Someone then reasoned in the thread that the film has not been given permission to release due to Pierce’s meeting with the Dalai Lama.

In an interview with GQ last month, Pierce Brosnan told an anecdote about a meeting with the spiritual leader Dalai Lama and praised him.

In the past, several other films have been prevented from being released in China for similar reasons.

No official announcement has been made regarding the same.

For the unversed, in China, Tibet and its autonomy is a hot topic and public figures associating with Dalia Lama have been known to be shunned.

‘Black Adam’ stars Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero. It features Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate and has a cameo of Henry Cavill, as Superman. The film was released in multiple countries in October, but it has not been released in China yet. The film was expected to release in the country later this year.
