Vikrant Massey apologises for 'distasteful' old tweet: 'Never my intention to hurt or disrespect'

Fresh off the success of his critically acclaimed film, '12th Fail', actor Vikrant Massey has suffered a major blow. An old tweet by the actor has now gone viral for allegedly disrespecting Hindu sentiments. Massey has now issued an apology for his now-deleted tweet.

An old tweet by Vikrant Massey has sparked public outrage. In the tweet, which he made in 2018, the actor expressed his anger over the gangrape murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. The actor shared an editorial cartoon that showed Goddess Sita telling Lord Ram, 'I’m so glad I was kidnapped by Ravan and not by your bhakts!” Posting the cartoon on his X account (then Twitter), the 12th Fail actor wrote, “Half-baked potatoes and half-baked nationalists will only cause pain in the gut. #KathuaCasr #Unnao #Shame.'

Actor issues apology

The now-deleted tweet of the actor went viral on Tuesday, attracting massive criticism from netizens. Following the backlash, the actor took to issue an apology. 'In context to one of my tweets way back in 2018, I’d like to say a few words: It was never my intention to hurt, malign, or disrespect the Hindu community.'

He continued, 'But as I reflect in hindsight about a tweet made in jest, I also realise the distasteful nature of it. The same could have been said without adding the cartoon, which was published in a newspaper. And I'd, with utmost humility, like to apologise to everyone who has been hurt.'

'As you all by now know, I hold all faiths, beliefs, and religions with the highest possible regard. We all grow up with time and reflect upon our mistakes. This was mine,' Massey concluded.

On the film front, Vikrant Massey will next feature in 'Yaar Jigri,' also featuring Sunny Singh.
