Vidya Balan files police complaint against imposter asking money from her contacts, details inside

Bollywood actor Vidya Balan has filed a police complaint with the Khar police, seeking legal action against a perpetrator who created fake email, Instagram, and WhatsApp accounts in her name. According to media reports, an unknown conman used the actor's name to reach out to her close contacts in the entertainment industry to ask for money under the pretense of offering work and collaborating on new projects.

An official from the Khar Police revealed that Vidya became aware of the conman when a designer with whom she had previously collaborated informed her of the fake account. The designer reportedly received a WhatsApp message from an unknown person, claiming to be Vidya Balan, expressing interest in working with him. After their discussion, the unidentified person also promised the designer work opportunities. The official also added that the conman had also approached other contacts of Balan, asking them for money.

“This designer immediately contacted the actress to alert her that someone claiming to be her had texted him. Balan was informed about similar activities being done over e-mail as well as on Instagram by other industry contacts,” said an official from Khar police.

A case was filed under Section 66(C) of the IT Act, which pertains to dishonestly using another person's unique identity feature. Following the complaint, the police have booked the unknown conman. More details are awaited.

Work-wise, Vidya's most recent appearance was in the 2023 mystery film 'Neeyat'. She will next be seen in the upcoming romantic comedy 'Do Aur Do Pyaar', which also stars Sendhil Ramamurthy, Pratik Gandhi, and Ileana D'Cruz. The actor is also set to return as Manjulika in the hit franchise 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'.
