Vikramaditya Motwane Criticizes Screen Space Disparity Between 'Pushpa 2' and 'All We Imagine As Light'

Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane has expressed his frustration over the disproportionate screen distribution between Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule and the critically acclaimed All We Imagine As Light by director Payal Kapadia.

Despite Pushpa 2 enjoying multiple daily screenings, Motwane voiced his disappointment on Instagram Stories, emphasizing that Kapadia's Golden Globe-nominated film struggles to find a place on the big screen.

Motwane congratulated Kapadia on her two Golden Globe nominations for All We Imagine As Light, including Best Director, but criticized the industry's lack of support for her film.



He shared a screenshot showing multiple screenings of Pushpa 2 while noting that Kapadia's film was being sidelined. In his post, Motwane lamented, “Payal’s incredible success will mean f**k all to us because we will throw her film out, not let it breathe, and have 36 shows a day of one film in a single multiplex.”

While the team behind Pushpa 2 has yet to respond to Motwane’s comments, the situation highlights the ongoing debate about the prioritization of commercial blockbusters over independent films.

About Pushpa 2: The Rule

The sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise, Pushpa 2: The Rule continues the saga of Pushpa Raj, played by Allu Arjun, now the leader of a Red Sanders smuggling syndicate. Directed by Sukumar, the film also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. Released on December 5, the film has already crossed ₹590 crores at the box office, with expectations to surpass ₹600 crores by Tuesday. The film sets the stage for Pushpa 3: The Rampage.

About All We Imagine As Light

All We Imagine As Light made history by earning two Golden Globe nominations for 2025, including Best Director for Payal Kapadia, marking a significant achievement as the first Indian director to be nominated in this category. The film, also nominated for Best Motion Picture in a Non-English Language, had already made waves earlier this year by winning the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The Malayalam-Hindi drama follows the lives of two nurses, Prabha and Anu, navigating love and life in Mumbai, and features Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Chhaya Kadam in key roles.
