Vidhu Vinod Chopra 'excited' for China release of '12th Fail': 'It will do very well'

Vidhu Vinod Chopra has expressed his excitement as his critically acclaimed film '12th Fail' gears up to release in China. In a conversation with Variety, Chopra said that as a filmmaker, he believes that storytelling transcends borders. He added that the film's China release is just not about reaching a new audience but about sharing universal human experiences that resonate regardless of geography.

He emphasised, "12th Fail’ is based on a story of honest people, and I am sure that people everywhere will relate to the struggles and perseverance of the characters. I'm excited to see how Chinese audiences connect with it."

Speaking about how he has his faith in the film, the director added, “I was invited to Macau by Marco Mueller for the Asia-Europe Young Cinema film festival. We had a standing ovation in China. And for me that was very gratifying. There were Hindi dialogues, and I of course couldn’t read the subtitles in Chinese. But the way people were clapping, the audience’s reaction was incredible. I have no doubt that this film will do very well.”

Starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, '12th Fail' had its theatrical release in India on October 27, 2023. The movie is based on the 2019 book of the same name, depicting the life and struggles of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma
