Trisha refers to Ranbir Kapoor's Animal as a 'cult' movie; removes post following criticism

Ranbir Kapoor's film ‘Animal’ has received widespread acclaim, yet Sandeep Reddy Vanga's creation faces criticism for allegedly 'glorifying toxic masculinity.'

Tamil star Trisha faced backlash after referring to the action thriller as 'cult' film on social media.

Trisha took to her Instagram Stories on Sunday night to share a poster of Ranbir Kapoor’s film, and wrote, ‘One word- CULT! Pppppppaaaaaahhhhhhh (face with peeking eye, face exhaling and clapping hands emojis).’

The actor deleted the post shortly after, but screenshots circulated online. Criticism emerged for her apparent support of a film deemed to 'glorify toxic masculinity'.

‘Why are you glorifying this sh*t movie. Cult?!! Cult?! Seriously!? Even men are calling out but actresses are hyping this?! I can’t with this herd mentality. Women, just stop. Stop glorifying, hyping Animal movie,’ wrote a user on Reddit.

Another comment read, ‘Movies like Animal is what gives rise to people like Mansoor Ali Khan. The fact that Trisha of all people goes and wax lyrical about that movie is just all kinds of wrong.’

Many also extended their support to the actor.

‘Everyone are entitled to their opinion. But of course, some people who were waiting for a chance to launch a hate attack against her (the very same people who were silently supporting the awful guy who made sleazy comments about her publically & is facing legal action) lapped this up. Poor Trisha had to delete it almost immediately. What kind of world is this where people have to live in fear and can not even express their opinion on a movie they watched? P.S. Personally, I’m repulsed by the movie from the reviews itself and will probably never watch it. But that doesn’t mean I’ll play judge, jury, and executioner to others who liked the movie. It’s their choice. There are people who see it just as a film and like it. There are people who don’t. It’s a free world,’ a user wrote.

For the unversed, Trisha was recently in the news for calling out Mansoor Ali Khan for a rape comment.

Last month, Tamil actor Mansoor Ali Khan said in a comment that he was disappointment as he did not have a scene with Trisha in ‘Leo’, adding that they could have had a rape scene together which sparked outrage and Trisha also called him out.

Mansoor apologised to Trisha but later said that he would be filing a defamation case against the ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ actor.
