SS Rajamouli admits speeding up ‘RRR’s sequel after ‘Naatu Naatu’s Oscar win

‘Naatu Naatu’ from SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Soon after the big win, the director was asked about the sequel of the film in an interview. Talking to Hollywood trade magazine Variety, Rajamouli admitted that the Oscar win will speed up work on the sequel which is being written by his father, screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad.

Composer Keeravaani added that saying about the progress of the sequel was a ‘tricky question’.

The director and his cousin, ‘Naatu Naatu’s composer MM Keeravaani attended the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.

Earlier, SS Rajamouli had said that he hadn't planned to make a sequel of ‘RRR’. However, after the film became a blockbuster, he started considering making it.

In an interview with Variety, he said, ‘After the international success, when the topic came up again, my cousin (MM Keeravaani) — who is also a part of my core team — gave an idea which we felt like, ‘Oh my God, this is a great idea. This is the idea that is worth pursuing.’’ He also discussed with his dad to expand the idea and to begin the work as soon as possible.

The director further added, ‘At present, he’s seriously working on the story; he’s getting it done. But once this script is done is when we really look into how to make it, when to make it, and how to bring it onto the screen.’
