Sona Mohapatra says she received rape, death threats for criticising Salman Khan

Singer Sona Mohapatra, in a recent interview with ETimes, recalled how she received rape threats after she slammed actor Salman Khan for criticising Priyanka Chopra for exiting his film, 'Bharat.'

In 2019, Salman made a derogatory comment on Priyanka, saying she quit the 'biggest film of her career' to marry singer-actor Nick Jonas while people usually leave their husbands to grab such an opportunity. Sona had then tweeted that 'Priyanka has better things to do in life, real men to hang out with and girls to inspire with her journey.'

Talking to ETimes, Sona mentioned that she went through the 'most hideous trolling, including death threats for calling out Salman for his misogyny and statements. Her ordeal continued for two months and later the Minister of Women and Child Welfare had to launch a campaign for better safety of women and children online. Sona further added that she received 'gang rape threats' and her morphed pictures were put up on adult sites.

The singer earlier criticised the actor for his statement where he compared himself to a 'raped' woman while talking about the exhausting shoot of 'Sultan.' Sona slammed Salman once again after he requested his fans to support Sushant Singh Rajput's fans and family.

Sona Mohapatra is currently awaiting the release of her documentary, 'Shut up Sona.' It will release on Zee5 on July 1.
