SC refuses urgent hearing of plea against release of Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra's ‘Thank God’

A huge relief for Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra starrer ‘Thank God’. The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined an urgent hearing of a plea against the film, which is scheduled to release in theatres on October 25. The court will now hear the case on November 21.

Shri Chitragupta Welfare Trust had filed a petition, demanding the removal of film’s trailers and posters from YouTube and other electronic platforms. It also requested the court to stop the release of the Indra Kumar directorial in theatres or on OTT platforms.

According to Live Law report, the petition alleged that movie’s release will be in violation of Articles 14 and 25 of the Constitution along with Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act. ‘The present Petition arises out of and against derogatory expressions, acts, statements, dialogues and insulting images, videos in and around the character of God Chitragupta played by Bollywood Actor, Ajay Devgan/Respondent No. 4 which is evident from the release of the trailer of the Bollywood movie 'Thank God',’ it stated.

According to the petitioner, the movie is spreading wrong, derogatory messages against Lord Chitragupta.

The Central Board of Film Certification, director of the movie Inder Kumar, its producer Bhushan Kumar and actor Ajay Devgn have reportedly been made parties to the plea by the petitioner.
