Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal express their joy as 'Girls Will Be Girls' wins Grand Jury Prize at IFFLA

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal's production 'Girls Will Be Girls,' directed by Shuchi Talati, continues to make waves on the international film circuit. The film recently won the Grand Jury Prize at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), adding to its accolades. This achievement marks a hat-trick for the film. It previously won Grand Jury prizes at the Transylvania International Film Festival in Romania and the Biarritz Film Festival in France.

The film garnered two major awards at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Starring Kani Kusruti and Preeti Panigrahi, the film captivates audiences and critics with its unique narrative and enthralling performances.

Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha echoed their sentiments

Richa Chadha expressed her happiness at the recent win, stating, 'Winning the Grand Jury Prize at IFFLA is an incredible honour. It’s gratifying to see the hard work and dedication of our entire team being recognised on such a prestigious platform. ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ is a story close to our hearts, and we are thrilled that it continues to resonate with audiences globally. This marks our third win for the film this month, which is monumental. The overwhelming response and love the film has received are truly exceptional. We couldn’t have asked for a better debut as producers.'

Ali Fazal echoed her sentiments, remarking, 'This journey has been nothing short of magical. From Sundance to Cannes and now IFFLA, each accolade reaffirms our belief in the power of authentic storytelling. We are grateful for the support and love we’ve received, and we’re excited to see where ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ will go next.'

'Girls Will Be Girls' revolves around Mira, a 16-year-old portrayed by Preeti Panigrahi, navigating her complex relationship with her mother in a strict Himalayan boarding school. The film delves into Mira’s journey of teenage love. Themes of mother-daughter dynamics, autonomy over one’s body, and female empowerment across generations is portrayed sensitively.

More about 'Girls Will Be Girls'

This Indo-French co-production combines the creative efforts of India’s Pushing Buttons Studios, Crawling Angel Films, Blink Digital, and France’s Dolce Vita Films. As 'Girls Will Be Girls' continues garnering acclaim worldwide, Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal celebrate the film’s achievements.
