Amid rising India-Maldives tensions over a controversial tweet by a Maldivian minister on Lakshadweep, celebrities and cricketers voiced support for the islands. Ranveer Singh also promoted Lakshadweep tourism but had to remove his post due to a significant mistake.

The 'Gully Boy' actor took to X (formerly Twitter) to encourage his fans to discover Lakshadweep and immerse themselves in India's rich culture. But he inadvertently shared a picture of the Maldives along with his message

‘Let's make 2024 a year of exploring India and embracing our heritage. There's an abundance of beauty to explore, from our scenic beaches to the heart of our nation. Come on, India, let's #exploreindianislands. Chalo bharat dekhe,’ Ranveer posted on X.

Several users pointed out the mistake and trolled the actor for the same.

The actor subsequently removed the post and posted a new one on the microblogging platform without including any image.

‘So Ranveer Singh is using the pic of Maldives to boycott Maldives,’ said a user.

Another added, ‘Ranveer Singh was using Maldives pic to promote Lakshadweep. He has now deleted the post. Moye Moye’

‘Ranveer Singh tried to promote Indian tourism by sharing a photo from.....the Maldives. The photos show islands Maalhos, Hibalhidhoo, and Dharavandhoo in Maldives,’ commented a person.

Actors Akshay Kumar, Varun Dhawan, Salman Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor, along with cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar, Venkatesh Prasad, and Virender Sehwag, have urged people to explore domestic islands instead of traveling to the Maldives.

Simultaneously, the Maldivian government suspended three ministers due to their controversial social media posts against India and PM Narendra Modi, which triggered widespread outrage. Many Indians reported canceling their planned trips to the Maldives. The diplomatic dispute began when a Maldivian minister accused India of targeting their nation and asserted that India faced difficulties in competing with the Maldives in beach tourism.
