Bollywood star Ranveer Singh recently fell victim to a fake AI-generated deepfake video, where he appears to voice political views. The video, seemingly from his Varanasi visit, features an AI-generated voice that mimics his. Singh also took to social media to warn his followers, writing, ‘Beware of deepfakes, friends.’

Ranveer Singh's official spokesperson confirmed filing a police complaint regarding the circulation of the deepfake video. The FIR has been lodged for investigation by the Cyber Crime Cell. The spokesperson stated, ‘Yes, we have filed the police complaint and FIR has been lodged against the handle that was promoting the AI-generated deepfake video of Mr. Ranveer Singh.’

Aamir Khan also fell victim to a deepfake video, appearing in a fake political advertisement related to an election and a specific political party, which surfaced on the internet.

Aamir Khan’s team issued an official statement regarding the fake video, that read, ‘We want to clarify that Mr. Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections. We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue.’

The proliferation of deepfake videos featuring actors highlights the potential impact of AI-generated content in the Lok Sabha polls. Deepfakes are being utilized more frequently in elections globally, such as in the US, Pakistan, and Indonesia.
