'Ponniyin Selvan' trailer launch: Aishwarya touches Rajinikanth's feet, hugs 'guru' Mani Ratnam at event

A grand audio and trailer launch event of ‘Ponniyan Selvan’ was held in Chennai on Tuesday night (September 6). Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays Queen Nandini, attended the event along with entire star cast of the film. Superstars Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan were also on the guest list.

Aishwarya won hearts at the event with her sweet gesture towards Rajnikanth and director Mani Ratnam, videos of which are going viral on the internet. Aishwarya, who was elated to reunite with her ‘2.0’ co-star Rajinikanth, was seen touching his feet and hugging him. He was the chief guest of the event.

Aishwarya was also seen running from the front row to meet the ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ director and greeting him with a hug. Aishwarya had made her debut with Mani Ratnam’s ‘Iruvar’ in 1997. They have also worked together in ‘Raavan’ and ‘Guru’.

At the event, Aishwarya referred to Mani Ratnam as her 'guru (mentor)' and said that she has learnt ‘passion, commitment, dedication, and focus’ from him. She also thanked Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for being a part of the event.

‘Rajini and Kamal sir - dream moment of having you both here. We have been students, admirers of you and continue to do this forever,’ she said.

‘Ponniyin Selvan Part 1’ also stars Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Ravi and Sobhita Dhulipala. The film is a cinematic adaptation of author Kalki Krishnamurthy's Tamil novel of the same name. It will release in theatres on September 30 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
