‘Pathaan’: Morning shows of Shah Rukh Khan’s film cancelled in Indore theatres after protests

On the day of ‘Pathaan’s release, morning shows of the Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer were cancelled at some theatres in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, following protests by right-wing organisations.

Activists of the Hindu Jagran Manch waved saffron flags at the Sapna-Sangeeta cinema hall in protest against the movie and recited Hanuman Chalisa. Some of the protesters even entered the theatre and asked the audience to move out.

Bajrang Dal activists also staged a protest against the Siddharth Anand directorial at Kastur cinema hall in the city. Police security was deployed at both theatres in view of the protests.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Dishesh Agrawal said some of ‘Pathaan’s morning shows were cancelled due to the protests. When asked about further shows of the movie, he said an appropriate decision will be taken considering the law-and-order situation.

‘Pathaan’ has been embroiled in a controversy over its song ‘Besharam Rang’. A sequence in the song that shows Deepika in a saffron bikini sparked protests across India for allegedly hurting ‘Hindu sentiments’.
