'Munjya' actor Abhay Verma reveals why he turned down 'The Archies' and prioritsed 'Safed'

Abhay Verma has garnered attention for his recent role in the film 'Munjya.' While receiving global acclaim for his performance, it was revealed that he had previously auditioned for Zoya Akhtar's highly anticipated project, 'The Archies.' In a recent interview, Abhay disclosed that despite auditioning for 'The Archies,' he ultimately chose to opt out of the film to star in the 2023 movie 'Safed.'

'Both The Archies and Safed were happening at the same time.' I chose Safed over The Archies. I was in the process of The Archies but I really wanted to do Safed,' Abhay said. 'I had auditioned for 'The Archies' and had met Zoya. But, I decided to go with the latter' the actor added.

'The Archies,' released in December 2023, marked Bollywood debuts of Agastya Nanda, Suhana Khan, and Kushi Kapoor. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film also featured Vedang Raina, Aditi Saigal, Mihir Ahuja, and Yuvraj Menda in pivotal roles.

Abhay Verma also mentioned that he was initially supposed to appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Gangubai Kathiawadi,' starring Alia Bhatt. 'I wish I could have done that film but I had got another project at that time. But, then a few days after I couldn’t do Gangubai Kathiawadi, I met Alia for a brand shoot. Just a few days back, I had met Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir for Gangubai Kathiawadi,' he added.

About 'Munjya'

Abhay Verma stars alongside Sharvari and Mona Singh in this horror-comedy set in Pune and the Konkan region. Film revolves around the creature 'Munjya', who disrupts life of Bittu, played by Abhay. It has already surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office and received positive reviews. Film is praised for its engaging storytelling and family-friendly entertainment, making it a recommended watch for fans of folklore and horror genres.
