Madhur Bhandarkar on the pandemic’s aftermath in the industry and why films are failing at the box office

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s latest film ‘India Lockdown’ is now streaming on OTT platform Zee5. In a chat with indianexpress.com, he spoke about the pandemic’s aftermath in the industry.

When asked to share his thoughts on the declining footfalls at theatres and the audience’s inclination towards watching content at their homes via OTT platforms, Madhur stated that it is a temporary phase and it’s time filmmakers introspect as there haven’t been too many good movies this year.

Bhandarkar added that people are now used to watching varied content in all languages. He feels filmmakers should only make original content and with good writers around, the content will work.

The three-time National Award winner added that it worries him that now a lot of people wish to go and watch big-budgeted films and experience a magnum opus. He said not many can make such films and he himself is a content-driven filmmaker who works on small or midsize budgets.

Madhur Bhandarkar's 'India Lockdown' starrs Shweta Basu Prasad, Prateik Babbar, and Ahana Kumra among others.
